Questions we hear the most.
What Heurista does, how AI fits in, where data lives, what pricing actually means, how teams move over from existing tools. Missing yours? Send it over.
Getting started
What is Heurista, in one sentence?
A research and evaluation workspace for designing instruments, collecting or importing field data, analyzing qualitative and quantitative evidence, building dashboards, and preparing reports from one study record.
Who is it for?
Program evaluators, academic researchers, data and insights teams, and humanitarian field researchers. There’s a detailed page for each group under Who is Heurista for?.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The free tier supports form-based study setup, basic analytics, manual coding, and CSV export. AI-assisted work, Hue, transcription, and larger workflows are on paid plans. See pricing for the current limits.
How long does it take to set up a study?
A simple form-based study can be set up quickly. More complex evaluations take longer because the framework, consent language, instruments, and review steps need to be right before collection begins.
Pricing & billing
How does pricing work?
Pricing combines a platform subscription with AI credits. Individual plans currently start at $89/month. Team plans start at $79/seat/month with a required shared credit pool. Annual billing and academic pricing are shown on the pricing page.
What are credits?
Credits cover AI-assisted work such as coding suggestions, Hue conversations, document review, transcription-related workflows, and report drafting. Form-based collection and manual review do not spend AI credits.
Do you offer an academic discount?
Yes, 20% off if your account is tied to an academic institution. Toggle Academic? Save 20% on the pricing page; we verify during signup.
Can I change plans or seats later?
Yes. Add or remove seats whenever, and switch between monthly and annual at renewal. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the next cycle.
Do you offer enterprise pricing?
Yes, for larger teams, multi-organisation deployments, or specific procurement requirements. Get in touch and the team will respond as quickly as they can.
Data & security
Where is data stored?
Heurista supports regional hosting arrangements for customers with residency requirements. Confirm the exact region during contracting; full detail is on the security page.
Is research data used to train AI models?
No. Research data goes to AI providers under commercial API terms and isn't used to train public models. See the AI Disclosure.
Can I sign a DPA?
Yes. A standard Data Processing Addendum is available for customers who need one for procurement or data protection review.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Export full study data whenever, responses, codes, themes, transcripts. After cancellation, account data sticks around for the retention window in the Privacy Policy, then gets deleted.
AI & methodology
How does AI fit into the analysis?
AI supports qualitative coding, Hue study queries, and report drafting. Suggestions are always reviewable and editable. Nothing gets auto-applied unless a researcher accepts it.
Can I trust AI-generated findings?
AI-assisted findings should be treated as drafts. Heurista keeps source links close to responses, transcripts, or documents so reviewers can check the support and edit or reject anything before it ships.
Does it support OECD-DAC and other evaluation frameworks?
Yes. OECD-DAC is one featured framework, but it is not the whole story. Heurista supports several evaluation and research framework patterns, plus custom frameworks.
Can I use my own codebook?
Yes. Import an existing codebook or build one inside Heurista. AI coding suggestions then align to your codes instead of auto-generated ones.
Does it work for mixed-methods research?
Yes. Quantitative and qualitative analysis live in the same study, with disaggregation by demographic or programmatic variables.
Team & collaboration
How do team plans work?
Team plans share a credit pool across seats and include role-based access (owner, member, reviewer). You can scope studies to specific collaborators.
Can I share findings outside my team?
Yes, through exports, shareable dashboard links, and PDF reports. External viewers don't need a Heurista account to open a shared dashboard or read an exported report.
Is SSO available?
SSO is available on Enterprise. On Team plans, you manage access through email invitations and role assignment.
Migration & integrations
Can I import data from NVivo, Dedoose, or Atlas.ti?
Transcripts, response exports, and standard codebook formats can be moved into Heurista through structured exports. Tool-specific project files don’t open directly; for a migration, we map the export format before you commit to the workflow. More context here.
Can I sync or import survey data from Kobo, ODK Central, SurveyCTO, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, or CSV?
KoboToolbox connects by API for live instrument push and response pull. ODK Central connects by API for live form publish and update. SurveyCTO and other XLSForm-compatible tools are supported through validated XLSForm export and structured data import, and Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, CSV, and XLSX import as files. Confirm the exact workflow with the team for your source system.
Is there an API?
Programmatic access for responses, exports, and re-analysis is on the roadmap and available case-by-case for Enterprise customers. Get in touch if you have a specific need.
Yours isn't here?
